and yet, i don’t feel as sad as i should be
“In talking with___ this past weekend we discussed how we can get people to understand that practice is extremely important, and that we need players to be in attendance. I understand that this year has had conflicts based on work but missing practices without letting us know the week/weekend before regionals is just something that I can’t understand. I know that everyone is busy, but to play a club sport there needs to be a base level of commitment and being in attendance for practice is part of the expectation. In brainstorming how to help the situation we went over a lot, and in the end we determined that we just can’t have players playing at tournaments that do not attend practice. Since it is late in the season and Regionals is a very big tournament we didn’t want to suspend anyone for the whole tournament. The conclusion that we reached was that we are suspending players for the first game of regionals. Players will be expected to be at the fields and active on the sidelines, but will not get playing time. Let me know if you have any questions. It is rare that I would choose this method but when half our A-team doesn’t show up to practice when its 65 degrees the weekend before regionals I start to run out of good answers.”
